Fred Herscovitch: Artist Statement - Making the Invisible Visible

During my career I have explored aspects of nature that are normally invisible to the human eye. Science has provided the inspiration and tools for such exploration. For example, using photomicrographs as source material, I spent twelve years painting the dazzling world of crystals; this resulted in Micro Art.

Then I discovered startling images that had been captured by means of Shlieren, Kirlian, thermographic and infra red photography, and used these sources to paint Invisible Worlds.

When photographs taken through giant radio telescopes became available, I created Galaxies of Light, paintings depicting galaxies and nebulae. In this way I unveiled invisible worlds ranging from the microcosmos to the macrocosmos.
